The $60 Money Leak Most Tired People Miss 💸

“Not every money win is exciting. Some are scrambled eggs instead of takeout.”

Hi Reader,

Last week hit all at once. Work was busy and home was chaotic. We're getting ready for my daughter, Isabell's, upcoming college graduation while my son and I work to wrap up the homeschool year.

By evening my brain still felt like it had fifteen tabs open and somewhere there was music playing. It was one of those weeks where sitting down felt like someone handed you an award.

That’s usually when I want to cave and order pizza... because no one wants to cook on those days. You're tired and ready to just drop. But it’s never just pizza. It’s the drinks, dessert, and random add-ons that somehow turn exhaustion into a $60 decision.

So we kept the week simple instead: sandwiches, pasta, leftovers, and one upside-down dinner with scrambled eggs, because eggs still show up even when the rest of life is questionable.

None of it was fancy, but it worked. We survived the week, and we definitely spent less money. And those small choices (like choosing to save money and cook at home instead of splurging on pizza night) are exactly how an emergency savings account slowly grows.

This month, I’m focusing a lot on saving money, building financial breathing room, and finding realistic ways to keep more cash in your pocket without making life miserable.

That “keep it simple and hold the line” mindset is why I keep coming back to an emergency fund, especially when money feels tight. I've been in a lot of tight spots over the years, so I get it. It’s easy to think you need extra money to start, but real life doesn’t work like that. I broke it down in a way that actually feels doable — tap the button below to read: how to build an emergency fund when money’s tight.

Saving money is easier when the right tools do some of the heavy lifting. These are the ones I’ve been using lately:

These aren’t flashy, but they work. And, yes, I've got a savings tracker in a picture frame on my wall. I keep it framed behind glass so I can use a dry erase marker to check off my progress and the reuse it.

Remember: small wins stack up fast when money is tight and life moves at full speed.

That’s where I’m at this month. I'm not chasing perfect. I'm just a gal who's stacking small wins and making things a little easier where she can.

Some days that looks like saying no to takeout. Other days it’s just checking in with the budget and calling that progress. If you’re in the same boat, start small. It adds up faster than you think.

Until next time,
